In 1955, he joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in Europe in the
160th Sig Corp., and worked as the battalion heavy equipment operator building egress roads and also did public relation work for
the German Civilian sector.
Over the next 20 years, Harold continued to work in the construction field, working for Frieden Construction as an estimator and supervisor of grading projects for the Burlington Railroad throughout Colorado, Wyoming, South Dakota and Nebraska. He was also employed by Pete Hannen Equipment Co. of Denver, Colorado as a heavy equipment salesman and worked with numerous coal mining and ore mining companies in the Rocky Mountain, Colorado and Wyoming areas. If he wasn’t working for someone else, he was self-employed subcontracting highway work or working with the Soil Conservation Service building
